DeLoss McGraw
Alice in Seattle
October 3 - November 2, 2024
Everyone comes to the big city with their own imagined story (from movies and songs and books). The story we bring with us and the story we make/find sometimes overlap, and are sometimes at odds.
In Deloss McGraw’s paintings, we see Seattle through the eyes of Alice. We never specify whether this is THE Alice or OUR Alice … or a mix of the two.
The words from the story Alice brings with her play in her head like a voiceover in a movie. They are a combination of WONDERLAND and LOOKING GLASS.
Sometimes this voiceover matches Alice’s experiences, sometimes they conflict.
So his text and imagery represent an interweaving of words from Lewis Carroll and the experiences of “Our Alice.”
